Preamble

A Note from
Late Dr. C. M. Singhal

The search for the roots and the identity is deep mooted in the human nature

– Late Dr. Chandra Mohan Singhal

In view of the continuity of the work of divine unity among Agarwals, a website has been created which can be kept updated. The website is managed by Prakash Mohan s/o Late Dr. Chandra Mohan Singhal, e-mail – prakashmohan1@gmail.com. We should also ensure that ‘Vanshbraksh’ is kept updated by passing all information’s to any one of the two. You may like to add new features and dimensions to the website, so your suggestions are welcomed.

Why This Vanshbraksh of Agarwals of Hamirpur?

Know thyself

– A Greek Philosopher

Who am I? Is an introspective question asked by the man since the very beginning of his appearance on the earth. The search for the roots and the identity is deep mooted in the human nature. This search for the identity and the roots led him to go back to his pedigree.

One of the chief characteristics of 18 Purans and 14 Smritis of Sanatan Dharm is ‘Vansh’ i.e. Pedigree, which has been defined as description of lineage descent. Pedigree is the line of descent, ancestry, genealogy, birth parentage or roots, as well as etymology and family tree, it is a recorded line of descent of a person in genealogical table which is a mark denoting succession in pedigrees. It is also life history of a person. So the concept of lineage descent’ in the form of family tree’ which arose in my mind in my childhood, has now been realised in black and white and is in your hands or before you in form of a book or CD.

When I turn the pages of the album of my memory, I recall the event of having seen ‘Vanshbraksh’ or family tree in the personal room of my cousin, Late Girijanandan (Girijesh Kumar)” which incidentally did not include my name as it covered the period before my birth. My mother very much wanted to have my name included, so I updated it some 60 years back by the time Ramesh was born hence his name was included in it. Another feature of this ‘family tree’ was that it was restricted to the names of male members only as daughters were obliviated or ignored as they were considered to be the family of their married partners. All these reasons inspired me and gave me an inclination to update it with the possible revisions. Besides, our ancestors belonged to Etawah and they migrated to Hamirpur (U.P.) for more than one and a half century ago. The present ‘Family Tree’ is still silent about the Pedigree living at Etawah. We hope some one will come forward and complete it.

In fulfillment of our desire, my cousin Late Om Prakesh” and me collected some data – but could not update the existing vanshawali. It was only during 2004-2005, we initiated the work of collection of Data through different relatives. With joint efforts of all relatives, in 10 months of hard-work we could produce the present Vanshbraksh (Family Tree). Being the first attempt there are some lapses in it which we hope succeeding generation will improve and update.
